Simulation of a ground-mounted prism in ABL flow using LES: on overview of error metrics and distribution

Abstract The accuracy of wind loading predictions using Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is usually influenced by numerous model parameters, which can influence the obtained results. validation numerical simulations with traditional Wind Tunnel Test (WTT) still an important task, necessary to increase our a priori knowledge possible inaccuracies and set up mitigation strategies. In this study, LES used simulate fields around isolated high-rise building, under seven attack angles validated WTT various settings parameters on performance studied. For angle showing higher inaccuracy, different mesh refinement strategies turbulence models are tested. Results indicate that accurately predict mean local maxima pressure coefficients for both perpendicular skew angles, as well reproduce global forces their envelopes very good accuracy. Conversely, pronounced errors found in prediction coefficient standard deviation minima. highest deviations between close leading edge correspondence flow separations observed not flows. addition boundary layer cells use subgrid have limited effectiveness modifying results analysed case.
